Living up to it's name as 'Fast Cast'. What I managed to pour worked out fine and trying again with half the amount of resin produced a variety of bases fairly easily and a lot quicker and less smelly than the polyester, all of which was nice.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The castings are a lot sharper, as the filler I had used in the polyester casting did blur things a bit though I did like the 'feel' of the castings produced. Polyurythane is obviously the way to go and I picked up some alternative 'white fastcast' at the same time to see how that works out as this has a slightly longer pot life.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">I also knocked up a quick mould to cast up some small scatter terrain bits to individualise the various castings which I had deliberately kept fairly blank, especially so I could tart up bases as required with these decorations. This mould worked out fine and I can now produce rubble, scatter and battlefield detritus to my hearts content. A few choice bits are already added to the Kroot Killteam bases which are currently in progress and will post up soon.</span></p>Hendridhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17336497594850535093noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2484139394809125284.post-2689131364445993052023-07-29T03:41:00.002+01:002023-12-07T12:40:40.825+00:00All about the Base<p> </p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwGuAOyVTjZmly-b43G13htAgsth0YwBpKfNRcMgZhjXHFZKr1mql6f68KtGMzl0BAcl4WQiiTpJMhRi1txbyYtzXDol3VqSXX7nqrqwHeDYJmq8Kss7NYemSE_3sWW2eOqo5c0AMH_6kVNT6x2Ry44JQBtQjCFsLvSFGNze4ZPG4DowEi_W0EYWlgUjY/s1200/20230727_131933.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="801" data-original-width="1200" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwGuAOyVTjZmly-b43G13htAgsth0YwBpKfNRcMgZhjXHFZKr1mql6f68KtGMzl0BAcl4WQiiTpJMhRi1txbyYtzXDol3VqSXX7nqrqwHeDYJmq8Kss7NYemSE_3sWW2eOqo5c0AMH_6kVNT6x2Ry44JQBtQjCFsLvSFGNze4ZPG4DowEi_W0EYWlgUjY/s320/20230727_131933.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: x-small;"><br />First figs receiving newly cast bases</span></td></tr></tbody></table><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Having been getting into Killteam recently and investing in the 'Into the Dark' set when released last year I had started building up the teams included in the box with the Kroot band being the first to be assembled.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">I had also invested in the 'Imperrium' magazine during Covid as a occupational therapy activity and had started assembling some of the new marine figures and a few others and intended to use the terrain bits included with the magazine for use with Killteam scenario's.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">On assembling the first figs and basing them I had decided I wanted to get some modern or techy basing for the figures to difference them from other 40K ranges I already have. First WHFB's outing for my Empire chaps in over 8 years (which happened to be a 6th Ed game too) and around 5 since last outing at all with the troops, then with the 9th Age rules.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Had had a couple of chats over the interweb during Covid about looking out the old 6th Ed stuff and finally got around to arranging a game with Kev and his Orc Boyz and game was duly played this week.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Managed all the rules OK with memories providing most of the details and only a couple of look ups required for a couple of details so both pretty pleased with brain power here as we both expected to be struggling but all pretty much fell into place once we got going.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The game was most enjoyable and won't put down a blow by blow account of the action, but suffice to say being seriously outnumbered from the get go and a poor deployment sealed the Empire's fate for the result. Though it wasn't all one sided and managed to score a couple of minor victories it was a well deserved overall victory for the Orks. Only three Empire units left on the field at the end and them pretty badly mauled and the Orcs still having 6 or so largely intact units rampaging about.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">I did do my usual with my artillery and the Great Cannon blew up on it's first shot Rd 1 to much merriment, pretty standard for my luck with artillery dice unfortuneately. Kev also had similar luck with his wizard on his 2nd spell with the Gobbo type's head exploding, also producing much laughter.</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6TdFuGS8njuK4jOUIa6-mvsR_OBTqPxACbEhkAn2FpnKQ4mKaXG5drB_2yd66XtH344fu2EQ_Vyt-3udRfwy2nxAiXaQ9_IGhp3IowOIySQo1toDYX3diLe4nh3obOzS1iCdHD2B0uEmo3yqxrzJkR6b0dxbFL_DbGGsniaqkoInDQW_T6NKX84Ae/s1199/IMG_20221003_214231.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="735" data-original-width="1199" height="196" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6TdFuGS8njuK4jOUIa6-mvsR_OBTqPxACbEhkAn2FpnKQ4mKaXG5drB_2yd66XtH344fu2EQ_Vyt-3udRfwy2nxAiXaQ9_IGhp3IowOIySQo1toDYX3diLe4nh3obOzS1iCdHD2B0uEmo3yqxrzJkR6b0dxbFL_DbGGsniaqkoInDQW_T6NKX84Ae/s320/IMG_20221003_214231.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The game produced quite a bit of interest on the night and a couple of bods expressed interest in digging out their 6th Ed armies for a bash, so all good from that point of view.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">So there's likely to be some more 6th Edition action coming up, hopefully in the near future, and I'll endeavour to put up a better showing with the chaps in black & yellow. I suspect new eyes and development team involvement with a new outlook on the development and writing of the rule set.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">This 3rd Ed obviously addresses and expands on a lot of the previous editions and has been developed from their SciFi rules-engine and FLftB3's sister game 'Five Parsecs from Home' which the intro describes as having many shared concepts and mechanics.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The basic premise of the rule set is that is provides a framework to play tabletop miniature based games on a principally solo basis (though easily adding in co-op play to the narrative) with the player developing and playing a warband in the classic skirmish game style and playing through a campaign, of a length decided by the player to suit their needs. Basically linked series of table top skirmish games with a narrative framework attached to give weight to the individual game outcomes.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The overall look of the 233 page rule book is very nice, clear and reasonably well laid out. The general fell of the layout is very reminiscant of the Osprey wargaming rule sets with similar if not identical typeface and the tables are much the same as say the Frostgrave rule sets and supplements.</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzAn6Fi6tJeFBmfkbN9TjbOPcfrYTTbS2fjj8O2Zkobd3GaD4C2xlkbcsUz6mSotPlS4gbJ66TVszSvPpI40eoa7JajokBBxwz7jw-RzpbAFZurgStP9kbm8WT5J4xiXoG59vVxO7aPlWLGBqdsN3oudBKZeAzCqSz0G1efaGOmj0NeSbjMu1yJD1S/s1800/Five%20Leagues%20From%20the%20Borderlands%20(2).jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1350" data-original-width="1800" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzAn6Fi6tJeFBmfkbN9TjbOPcfrYTTbS2fjj8O2Zkobd3GaD4C2xlkbcsUz6mSotPlS4gbJ66TVszSvPpI40eoa7JajokBBxwz7jw-RzpbAFZurgStP9kbm8WT5J4xiXoG59vVxO7aPlWLGBqdsN3oudBKZeAzCqSz0G1efaGOmj0NeSbjMu1yJD1S/s320/Five%20Leagues%20From%20the%20Borderlands%20(2).jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div><p><span style="font-family: arial;">The rules are split into the following sections;</span></p><p><span style="font-family: arial;">Part 1; Setting Out</span></p><p><span style="font-family: arial;"><span> </span><span> </span><span> </span>* Introduction</span></p><p><span style="font-family: arial;"> * Characters</span></p><p><span style="font-family: arial;"><span> </span><span> </span><span> * Game Rules</span></span></p><p><span style="font-family: arial;">Part 2; The Campaign </span></p><p><span style="font-family: arial;"><span> </span><span> </span><span> </span>* Preparation</span></p><p><span style="font-family: arial;"> * Adventures</span></p><p><span style="font-family: arial;"> <span> </span>* Encounters</span></p><p><span style="font-family: arial;"> <span> </span>* The Enemy</span></p><p><span style="font-family: arial;"> <span> </span>* Resolution</span></p><p><span style="font-family: arial;"> <span> </span>* Appendices</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The Introduction section is self explanatory and explains the Rules background and basic methodology and basic premise of the rule set and a blurb on The World of Five Leagues (read Anyworld) and inspirations fueling the idea's behind the rules and the writers sources and even has a play list for background music for mood while playing the game.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Each Warband created generally follows the same set-up; A starting number number of Hero's (4) one of which is the Avatar (ie the player) and Followers (2) with the number in the warband increased or decreased to ease or make the campaign more or less difficult and the warband can and will be added to and have losses and things progress.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-aBkdRLypfq-8zytmuWj-bmsYHxwiSO06GDzA6XviPe3CwEp5edGA6XRbLB-Ho9lQRr4FKTP53gqOKH34ANV1pU2OWgxTO3arM-03U4fa56CpJNvsW_gmWHwJsU6btOePe43RY48m5K5OGAdnrwygb10r6gUUsRG4zJrOXGXmr4HSxHX9LD8fC20D/s4160/Five%20Leagues%20From%20the%20Borderlands%20(3).jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3120" data-original-width="4160" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-aBkdRLypfq-8zytmuWj-bmsYHxwiSO06GDzA6XviPe3CwEp5edGA6XRbLB-Ho9lQRr4FKTP53gqOKH34ANV1pU2OWgxTO3arM-03U4fa56CpJNvsW_gmWHwJsU6btOePe43RY48m5K5OGAdnrwygb10r6gUUsRG4zJrOXGXmr4HSxHX9LD8fC20D/s320/Five%20Leagues%20From%20the%20Borderlands%20(3).jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Next up is character creation and is a RPG-lite system for creating warband characters of varying races and professions. The races are from the writers world (Six Races) and cover the usual tropes with only the Preen (bird-like humanoids) being slightly unusual. The profession types are pretty basic but between the race types and profession types available, most of likely character type requirements can be produced, either by selection or by random generation, which ever way is preferred.Each character has it's own stats of four basic abilities and each race has basic abilities peculiar to each and these are back-up by professional and back-ground skills making each character and on-going play pretty varied. There are a reasonable number of tables available here and looking at the relative simple framework, easily expanded upon to incorporate your own preferences, milieu bias's and professions if desired.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The terminology is also added in here and as well as the Warband themselves, they have Friends (usually patrons or non-comatant allies) and Enemies both of whom are controlled by the game system.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The game system is next laid out in the proceeding chapter The Battle Round (or game turn), the Combat system, Movement and Enemy activation, Terrain and it's effects,Spell Casting, Proficienty Tests, Will Points, Story Points and Equipment.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The writers are unabashed about their sources of inspiration of their rule system and openly espouse borrowing idea's from Mordheim, LotR SBG, Necromunda, 5150 and Platoon Forward, so lots of the various mechanics will be familiar to most reading them and there isn't anything over-all new or innovative, but this disparet parts generally gel quite well and the system appears to be well playtested and streamlined.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The game uses D6 for combat, skill rolls etc, with D10 required for character generation and quite a few of the random table require D100. Occassional D20 required too. For the tabletop element yor generrally sticking to the trusty D6.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">I won't go through the approx 40 pages of the basic game mechanic as these will be familiar(ish) to most with no real surprises in here but suffice to say all required elements are covered. Observations on though on the spell casting merit a comment; the basic GW 2D6 system is adopted with a couple of tweaks, mainly the introduction od 'strands' which are basically spell fuel and are available from various sorces and possible campaign routes present themselves here, and these strands are collected and kept by spell casters (max 3 at any one time) with a strand is expended if the spell is successfully cast (unless the spell is of 'simple' type or a natural 12 is rolled). This mechanic limits the spell casting on the the table as likely fairly small battles, max 3 spells is likely all the time for.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The other item noted on Spells is on the Spells themselves which are uniformly 'support types' in nature and of the 34 spells on the listed, none are direct or in-direct damage type though there are a few which remove particular skill abilities which may then lead to damage or death.</span></div><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZMQ4uafADE5yov8bQt5W5LiF3n0qf0XghlMcFxBmCGt8SwG8xf7hke2S5eashi7Fa3aBeze1MX__3tql-WSJVtA5PozvL_U9VpBSqIOR9hKGSVZ8NxNDpxBx4NRgAijR_7tPYboMjvpgTmHeF3a_QC3v2U-0FrSqQEcQji7EE4wpN45P4cN5XB26j/s4160/Five%20Leagues%20From%20the%20Borderlands%20(4).jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3120" data-original-width="4160" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZMQ4uafADE5yov8bQt5W5LiF3n0qf0XghlMcFxBmCGt8SwG8xf7hke2S5eashi7Fa3aBeze1MX__3tql-WSJVtA5PozvL_U9VpBSqIOR9hKGSVZ8NxNDpxBx4NRgAijR_7tPYboMjvpgTmHeF3a_QC3v2U-0FrSqQEcQji7EE4wpN45P4cN5XB26j/s320/Five%20Leagues%20From%20the%20Borderlands%20(4).jpg" width="320" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;">The meat of the rule set is in Part 2 of the rules with thne campaign system with the initial chaptor 'The Campaign Structure' setting out the idea the campaign turn which is broken into Preparation, Adventuring, Encounter and Resolution Stages.</span><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Basically the rules take you through the steps to create a minor fantasy campaign which can be as simple or extended as desired but the creation of a map is a necessity for the system to work but this can be pretty basic and almost blank to start with as the map will be populated and details of the locale develop as the campaign plays through. The rules suggest a couple of ways to do this and personnally I like this as I enjoy doing maps anyway, both on paper and on computer with various software packages like Inkarnate or Wonderdraft</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Once you have a starting map and created your Warband your ready to rock and the system runs on a random generated story. Each campaign turn starts with the warband in town, settlement or camp and this starts a narative depending on start point and there are random events which many add colour but can be scenario hooks but this can be ignored for Quick Play. Indeed many steps here are optional if you just want to generate a tabletop encounter and get to the meat, or you can go whole hog and flesh things out to create a full story to events.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">This step is followed the finacial step which covers recovery, financial costs, healing recruitment and so on and the mundane stuff. You can also carryout campaign activities </span><span style="font-family: arial;"> including gambling foraging hunting and so on, all of </span><span style="font-family: arial;">which are fun if your into the RPG element of the game. There is research, and then the roll to see if locations or settlements are discovered and finally deciding on the adventure.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">This is fairly varied too with options for how to spend the turn based on exploring a location, battling an enemy threat, riding a patrol, carrying out a contract, just resting or carrying out a quest. Once decided upon you can oufit your group for the coming adventure. All the options, ecept the resting one have many threads and forks and lots of potential variety.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghtV0F4Y8H9jmtq5c7p9h0qQE5meDrvimbAYMEInV5-Po_toxIS2od6rRNm2p08Ba2m1uCPQa-Hr2KauCGB0zxAgtCptyb8Bq6TMVc9O6ZFzAc5xKe39JVtMQSYbI8-jWrH_lS7jQhe9PzFQY_KNlgr68qcJFtbprbI0bqinQ0DgpdlhiyEQvdcUvK/s4160/Five%20Leagues%20From%20the%20Borderlands%20(5).jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3120" data-original-width="4160" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghtV0F4Y8H9jmtq5c7p9h0qQE5meDrvimbAYMEInV5-Po_toxIS2od6rRNm2p08Ba2m1uCPQa-Hr2KauCGB0zxAgtCptyb8Bq6TMVc9O6ZFzAc5xKe39JVtMQSYbI8-jWrH_lS7jQhe9PzFQY_KNlgr68qcJFtbprbI0bqinQ0DgpdlhiyEQvdcUvK/s320/Five%20Leagues%20From%20the%20Borderlands%20(5).jpg" width="320" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;"><div style="text-align: justify;">The adventure once generated is explored through a series tables to generate the location enemy threat and and extents of the enemy and/or rewards for victory and defeat.</div></span><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">There can be encounters along the way both malign and friendly a a narrative can be woven through each campaign turn and the events leading up to the final tabletop barney through the use of linked tables so nothing silly is likely to occur though running through a few trials on this did produce some surprises, there's nothing there that a bit of intuition can't put a slant on to fit your story.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The number of Scenario's available is pretty varied to with a number of scenario types (Meeting Engagement/Defensive Battles/Camp Raid/Hideout Raid/Site BattleMonster Lair) all of which have sub-types, descisions and variable objectves not including the variety of enemy threats, encounters and the warband itself to keep things interesting.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The rules include stats for a reasonably large number of foes and generally each has a sliding/escalating scale for encounters so the warband can easily wage war with a particular enemy culminating after a season of encounters in finally facing down the Big Bad of the clan of Darklings, Undead Horde, Bandits & Deserters, or just the local Baron and his steadfast militia. There are plenty of your standard monster types too and all the usual types are included here.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">On completion of your encounter for good or ill, there follows the resolution stage which anf gamer of Necromunda or Mordheim will recognise the premise and this is where you find out casualties, rewards, injuries and payments and any finds that will help the party in their next adventure and the all good loot table.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">You also tally out the warband experience and skill up your characters here and the band develops and changes with each adventure.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">A nice touch at the end here is the inclusion of a table for 'Enemy Plans' which may scupper the players options/plans which is a nice </span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">As said above, the rule set does create anything new here with all the systems being drawn together from various sources but there is an addition of pulling lots of disparate elements that do sit together well and the rules provide the player/s with a good mechanic to dress with your own take on and adventure. The rules can even be used to umpire a standard pvp table top game where there are NPC forces to be directed without any bias. Indeed, non-of the rules need to be used for a fully fantasy setting and could easyily be adopted for a more historical setting and substituting the fantasy elements for more mundane results.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJIUQroyW7Gk415vQWtR0pmysRMU0ainUw3wyyQSzkLDB5q2jAmXg-2wJlk_xnk-EyzLy2SKDW0yGhCtRW8zMexYNuIkQhcvQaLf_GsFaPnCwRRPonnN4Q7hBTDpe8lYY92rtNiUImMIsf1Yql9NmAd2MUm9EMQlwt6nwwMKo968Z1NLdNfXwIBMEE/s4160/Five%20Leagues%20From%20the%20Borderlands%20(6).jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3120" data-original-width="4160" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJIUQroyW7Gk415vQWtR0pmysRMU0ainUw3wyyQSzkLDB5q2jAmXg-2wJlk_xnk-EyzLy2SKDW0yGhCtRW8zMexYNuIkQhcvQaLf_GsFaPnCwRRPonnN4Q7hBTDpe8lYY92rtNiUImMIsf1Yql9NmAd2MUm9EMQlwt6nwwMKo968Z1NLdNfXwIBMEE/s320/Five%20Leagues%20From%20the%20Borderlands%20(6).jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Pretty much everything here can (and probably will be) added to by the target audience with extra encounter tables, player races and almost everything can be expanded to suit if the inclusions don't tickle a particular fancy, but the basic offering is well more than sufficient for your more than average player looking to have a solo or co-op campaign off the cuff or something more substantial without any alteration or addition or some time.</span></div><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The Appendices cover the aspects of collecting miniatures and terrain etc for the tabletop games, aimed at new converts to tabletop gaming, and there is a section for converting characters from previous version of the game to new edition or vice versa along with game adjustments. The final app is the Designer notes which give a bit of insight into the thought process of the whole thing.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Generally, I am quite taken with the rule set and though haven't had time to properly explore here,I most certainly will run a solo campaign to see where it takes me and I've already generated a basic map to explore.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Obviously, this rule set is not for everybody, but there's probably something of use to all players within it's pages who are likely to playing campaigns of any kind be it skirmish or standard large scale tabletop.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Having gone through the rules and tried a few bits and bobs, I am quite tempted to check out the sister rule set from Modiphius, 'Five Parsec from home to see what this offers in the way of Sci-Fi skirmish possibilities.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Five Leagues from the Borderlands 3rd Edition gets an initial score of 8 out of 10 for content and potential. </div><span style="font-family: arial;"><div style="text-align: justify;">Recently deciding that I needed a bit of variety for my terrain set-ups for my on-going 'Future Wars' project, and specifically a mix up on the buildings front to get a bit of Urban architectural diversity. I had already spotted some tidy bits and bobs with the Warmill ranges that I liked, so after a bit of deliberation I plumped for the Mini Mansion set, an extra Block Unit and a stair pack from the C.A.S.H. range to allow a bit of additional flexibility and some trendy fencing,from their Ultramodern range, all of which arrived in a nice weighty parcel at my door this week.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsOFxvom4QeOOexCQNKQMucCdld56Hf71ltQ_JT2hhMGNDva3_80Oz1TSzdgZl2i6bzCXgcVef6tzHyHHQ43o8Dj1w5UwNsF80hMN-vtvyfSbuAUmDxLhuiUaRGmdsy4lGDZLsvTrZwxU/s1200/Future+Wars+Terrain+002.jpg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0px; text-align: center;"><img alt="" border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsOFxvom4QeOOexCQNKQMucCdld56Hf71ltQ_JT2hhMGNDva3_80Oz1TSzdgZl2i6bzCXgcVef6tzHyHHQ43o8Dj1w5UwNsF80hMN-vtvyfSbuAUmDxLhuiUaRGmdsy4lGDZLsvTrZwxU/s400/Future+Wars+Terrain+002.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Digging out the parcel this evening and having a look over the contents, all looked present and correct, I opened up the Block Unit kit as a trail assembly and quickly cobbled together the unit. Taking a little over and hour to clip out and tidy up the pieces and then assemble using some PVA the kit went together nice and easily and now ready (after the glues dried) to undercoat and a spot of paint a suitable and simple paint job tomorrow.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">At the same time as ordering up the Warmill stuff, I ordered a bit of scatter terrain pieces from Miniature Scenary over in Oz for a bit of trendy set dressing but these are still in transit but looking forward for a bit of Urban Landscaping when they arrive.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">This terrain side project will be on-going but with the ease that the first kit went together, it shouldn't be long before all added to the shelf for a good boost to the Urban options.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div></span>

Namely 'Peter the Giant'.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The model is, for those who don't recognise it, one of the 'Giants of Albion' set from the OOP Citadel Dogs of War range. I have a couple of the box sets from years ago and the other model from this set will be the next giant for the army, but won't join the ranks until the army list is due for expansion.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The model has a number of firsts to it for me. First model completed this year, first model I have completely painted using a wet palette, first to be varnished using spray varnish, first use of pigments on a model and first model I've named after a family member.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">He's named after my father-in-law, who it has to be said it closely resembles, even down to the one good eye. Peter is no longer with us as he sadly passed away last year, but a wee bit of a memorium for him, (which I'm sure he would appreciate).</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The model is all in all a bit of an experiment in many ways and I found I had to learn things all over again but I will perservere, as most of the experience was positive and reasonably happy with the end result, but with lots to learn.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">I really liked using the pigments on the base as I was sure I would be and will be looking to experiement with them more in the future and see if I can get a bit more proficient in their use.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">I did have an issue with the spray varnish, a matt one from MigAMMO. I sure the issue was not with the product, but my use of it, as the final coat ended up pretty shiny, which I don't like. So I ended up applying a brush coat of my trusty Windsor & Newton Matt Varnish to finish up. The fact that most of the model has had four varnish coats has had a slight blurring effect on some of the detail but nothing too worrying.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Next unit up on the Oathmark painting front will likely be the first Human Infantry Spear unit, with the Human Bowmen unit currently under construction, but next on the painting queue are some fantasy skirmish figures to be finished off hopefully soon.</span></p><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvwI93pOvOVkgMtkshGsF5RWuaY7uQah9IT_lUawuG52KThLyK9ANW9vfCi977FaL8u7oNOw34oFSmLnjxOGgM4oLXM5AEZtFZdYpBj_kZPddcHyVagT85QdXt8oGE5NVkhYRe513fix8/s902/Pete+The+Giant+003.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="902" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvwI93pOvOVkgMtkshGsF5RWuaY7uQah9IT_lUawuG52KThLyK9ANW9vfCi977FaL8u7oNOw34oFSmLnjxOGgM4oLXM5AEZtFZdYpBj_kZPddcHyVagT85QdXt8oGE5NVkhYRe513fix8/s320/Pete+The+Giant+003.jpg" /></a></div><br /> <p></p>Hendridhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17336497594850535093noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2484139394809125284.post-54539579558185959272021-01-25T17:55:00.005+00:002021-01-29T22:37:54.180+00:00(Not) Planning 2021<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2d7Fs5l4JkQNLXw-RMtKHqfYkPhFKmMdxeypbHo6-ebuRy41xsWmjy2ZJfONgogHyXH6lFOsl4PH1_fjZ5tS0ei2ON6Uth8ET1rwqA7m7YoQmdPQAwtJxq6p35RV-5ycnaKnXHf6uB-Q/s2407/dofresh-a-dog-s-life-halfsize.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1024" data-original-width="2407" height="170" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2d7Fs5l4JkQNLXw-RMtKHqfYkPhFKmMdxeypbHo6-ebuRy41xsWmjy2ZJfONgogHyXH6lFOsl4PH1_fjZ5tS0ei2ON6Uth8ET1rwqA7m7YoQmdPQAwtJxq6p35RV-5ycnaKnXHf6uB-Q/w400-h170/dofresh-a-dog-s-life-halfsize.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">I've been having a bit of a look forward (and a look back) for hobby activities for the coming year and seeing if anything is looking probable given the current climate under which we are all living in at the moment.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">I know many in the wargaming fraternity have had more oppurtunity to get a dent into their lead mountains, with the enforced lockdown meaning many have had more free time forced on them to get painting and modelling done. I unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your point of view) haven't and for the second half of last year particularly, work was even more hectic than normal which meant the few rumblings of intentions I had had didn't even get a thought hobbywise, not even having time to pick up a brush since August. (I think I've glued one figure togerther in the last four months or so).</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">So although I have stopped 'planning' my hobby year ahead sometime ago, as the best laid plans never really materialised anyway, I had turned this activity into more of making up a mental wish list of stuff I'd like to do. This tending to be an amorphous and malleable thing at the best of times. But last year was even more unexpected than previously, with the total suspension of any gaming firstly, and then the expectation of getting more painting and modelling done never really materialising as my work activity (working from home) didn't really slow at all, to be superceded with a total lack of any free time at all as things picked up (as well as 'her-in-doors' having more time to plan extra diy projects since I had 'all this time on my hands').</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">So, although I'm not going to 'plan' the year ahead, I am going to have a bit of a wishlist of some stuff I would like to do or see done during the coming year. If it happens, good. If not, it'll move into the following year's probabilities.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">In no particular order;</span></p><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">* First off is the hope to get some real gaming done. This could be anything really, but I would like to get the next Mordheim Campaign underway as I was looking forward to this.The first game of the campaign co-incided with the March Lockdown last year so nipped in the bud as it were. Otherwise a game or two of anything would be a welcome entertainment. This one I think is on everyone's list.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">* Next up is continuing my build for my Oathmark Army I started putting together last year. This hasn't changed much since I managed to post a <a href="http://albatwowarblog.blogspot.com/2020/07/wip-july-oathmark-troops.html"><span style="color: red;">July WIP - Oathmark</span></a> last year but all the bits for the army are sitting ready to be painted, assembled or completed, so would be nice to progress this to see how it turns out.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkn8gnfhkmXaxJrchpsxZ0x15MBg_SpOr-kOMfZfB54RP-gRS0CtfobUrGjt0JDVNssTez_TGpUhY0jvYaUSVXvxq4zlD9c8E_Smipzm64FWbc7JDdo_KD2QeJYj2-rSiMtKuWkG0XzrA/s805/f8ca9a600251260f781caf0d8c30e726.jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="805" data-original-width="564" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkn8gnfhkmXaxJrchpsxZ0x15MBg_SpOr-kOMfZfB54RP-gRS0CtfobUrGjt0JDVNssTez_TGpUhY0jvYaUSVXvxq4zlD9c8E_Smipzm64FWbc7JDdo_KD2QeJYj2-rSiMtKuWkG0XzrA/w140-h200/f8ca9a600251260f781caf0d8c30e726.jpg" width="140" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;">* The next one on my wishlist is to do a few extra's for my Future Wars project. Though I didn't get much modelled or painted last year, I did find the time to buy a few bits and bobs over the period (adding something like a hundred models to my lead and plastic mountain mainly in the form of Kickstarter projects coming to fruition, but not entirely of course) including some nice resin models of APC's and a buggy from Mortiontanks. I'll hopefully finish off the <a href="http://albatwowarblog.blogspot.com/2020/08/future-wars-update-008-wip.html"><span style="color: red;">Future Wars WIP</span></a> I posted last year too. I'd like to get around to playing the next planned game of my Future Wars campaign too.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">* A piece of solo gaming is in my mind still as I would like to play my planned lockdown sanity-clause game ' <a href="http://albatwowarblog.blogspot.com/2020/04/isolation-exercise.html"><span style="color: red;">Bad Day at Ganish-Aer</span></a>'. I had completed most of the preparation work for this and I only have to complete one of the Warbands to play this (and base one other) so should be relatively do-able. This is just a 'because' kind of thing but has stuck in my mind, so would like to see it through.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">* Next item on the wishlist is to post more on this blog. Last year saw the lowest activity (from me) for all the reasons above but I am keen to keep this going as it is a rewarding thing all in all but is obviously depandant on my gaming and modelling activities, so here's to more of that and the blog will follow on.</span></div><blockquote style="border: none; margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;"><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">As a small aside to the last wishlist item; is it me or everybody else too, but does the blogging universe seem to be getting quieter recently? There are still a good number of stalwarts that keep posting regularly but an awful lot seemed to have dropped off and those still posting seem to be getting fewer comments. There was always a high drop off rate for this but new blogs took their place but this doesn't seem to be happening as much. Not sure if this is the case or just my perception as I've had less time to browse recently but I do get the impression that blogging seems to be 'moving-on' possibly to other platforms and people keeping to FB posts possibly.</span></p></blockquote><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">* Trying out some of the new rule sets purchased over the last months. There are a few sets of rules that I picked up over the last year or more that I've still to try out in anger. Oathmark and Realities Edge being at the top of this list, but there are a couple of others that were planned for the beginning of last year that didn't happen including Grimdark Freebie rules and I had thought about giving Age of Sigmar another try. I haven't been tempted by any of the newer historical rule sets recently out but may give one or more an airing to see if they add anything to the mix or are just the next iteration of the ongoing search for the ultimate quick play.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Although not 'new', I have a hankering to get more LotR gaming done with the latest version of the rules having only had one game right at the end of 2019 with the latest version of the rules and either in person PvP (when this is allowed to happen again), online PvP (if anyone will have me) or even a wee bit of solo gaming would be most welcome. Always enjoyed all the games we've had and still a favourite rule set. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaHnLECLftZ1U_2hemcjKcEHWSfWiafB5323_JUOGQV-XMB4sIsabCfgwGAnilhPJ2IhgeMvhMchfB_YbhwIR6vKzmJHtXG21zZPpa-VXwuR2yJeDQpHW-Oz9vY2sDY-q1aBKbxmoGsrU/s500/MIDDLE+EARTH+WARGAMES+RULES.jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="349" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaHnLECLftZ1U_2hemcjKcEHWSfWiafB5323_JUOGQV-XMB4sIsabCfgwGAnilhPJ2IhgeMvhMchfB_YbhwIR6vKzmJHtXG21zZPpa-VXwuR2yJeDQpHW-Oz9vY2sDY-q1aBKbxmoGsrU/w139-h200/MIDDLE+EARTH+WARGAMES+RULES.jpg" width="139" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;">* Trying out some old rules. I have had a few thoughts to play a couple of games using favourite rule sets from the dim and distant past. Just for a bit of nostalgia really but I would like to compare some of the old rules with their current counterparts and see if they were actually better or just different or indeed not as good as you remember. Maybe a bit of WAB, WRG or Middle Earth old skool gaming on the cards. This one I'd really like to get into this year.<br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">* Reducing the Mountain. Too many figures and ranges to mention individually and other those than posted above, but just generally make a bit more of chip off the block than I managed last year. I'd like to try and get a nett gain on completed to purchased this year but there's always more shiny's in this hobby.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">* Modelling, this is always terrain, terrain and more terrain. I enjoy the making process immensely and have a few pieces I would like to progress. I have also had a hankering to do some display pieces for their own sake. I used to do a lot of this back in the day and produced some decent 54mm and 75mm models plus a couple of vignettes and such.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">I think this type of activity is very indulgant and just the kind of thing to lift yourself up with finishing a display piece your proud of, keeps you sane and improves the spirits. <br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Another small update on things that have I have been working on, on and off over the lockdown, and this time a few bits that are for my on going 'Future Wars' project which continues to grow as the whim takes me.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">First up is the Heavy Hulk Battlesuit from Nuclear Shrimp games that I picked up as part of their Black Earth Kickstarter last year. Received a couple of vehicles and several troop models all of which are very nice and characterful and I'm resisting the urge to get more before I get whats already on the bench, particularly the vehicles.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlfUwGfUS_Sn53SOzdQICe1Y1vB0Umen5_Ab0eN0lvbN5UeFmSN18oEqmS8rYMQ5TNhjs2Xunlh8oMG-4m9_-adaiy6YnSpagqcYPBdiTg0VaaEONTOHAj9CC3SpgRod-APxsi_TTN9Pc/s1600/WIP+July+20+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="804" data-original-width="1200" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlfUwGfUS_Sn53SOzdQICe1Y1vB0Umen5_Ab0eN0lvbN5UeFmSN18oEqmS8rYMQ5TNhjs2Xunlh8oMG-4m9_-adaiy6YnSpagqcYPBdiTg0VaaEONTOHAj9CC3SpgRod-APxsi_TTN9Pc/s320/WIP+July+20+%25281%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The resin model was a wee bit fiddly to assemble and the only way seemed to drill and pin the legs together and then to the body, but once together it's very stable and the parts went together pretty well with minimal alteration. I've decided on the paint job it'll receive and is due to join the ranks of the European Federation troops in due course. What I haven't definitely decided yet is whether to base the piece or leave free standing as it were. I'm tending towards the base idea but the model would be more utilitarian if I leave free standing. The scenic base idea will probably win out.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Next up are a quad of Anvil Industries Robot types (C-48 Autonomous Mechs) from their Afterlife range which is easily their best range to date. S</span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">adly the Afterlife range looks to be unavailable now which is a pity as there are lots of bits I would like to get more of there too,</span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"> </span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxkaO1ZYfPt9K4PAxkSYK3qisJx0DZMF8MjoPzRVaoqEuqurhhV_qlHx8qMxU5Do8wiX2nFiWxxIQe0qq5qfqzpUKMAINpZoPz_4chUC_sdRw17Uga-sdUwdFn1iMoGU6uAQRGQEvYy9Y/s1600/WIP+July+20+%25286%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="652" data-original-width="1200" height="173" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxkaO1ZYfPt9K4PAxkSYK3qisJx0DZMF8MjoPzRVaoqEuqurhhV_qlHx8qMxU5Do8wiX2nFiWxxIQe0qq5qfqzpUKMAINpZoPz_4chUC_sdRw17Uga-sdUwdFn1iMoGU6uAQRGQEvYy9Y/s320/WIP+July+20+%25286%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Really nice models to assemble and they have been put of some constructed bases to try out a roller that I recently got with selective terrain rubble added. All that done so far painting wise is the base paint scheme which was to paint a graded metal/silver finish with an all over blue wash to give an all over sheen to the figures which worked pretty well and turned out haw I was looking for. Pretty simple now to pick out the details and finish off the bases.</span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB1I_skY4W_CEPa3HAlosFc_jJbEYgQ_PKot1HgpjKqR57APCfDy4pzzfp54-IwNhcWSoIvCBlG1qHt9ISaUk_bKsNvzBzWo8vQ2w-C3wIB3VFMvL0nQvWm9CzIt-sT78U9mWbBoYj70w/s1600/WIP+July+20+%25287%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="554" data-original-width="900" height="196" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB1I_skY4W_CEPa3HAlosFc_jJbEYgQ_PKot1HgpjKqR57APCfDy4pzzfp54-IwNhcWSoIvCBlG1qHt9ISaUk_bKsNvzBzWo8vQ2w-C3wIB3VFMvL0nQvWm9CzIt-sT78U9mWbBoYj70w/s320/WIP+July+20+%25287%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Lastly for this trio of Future Wars WIP are a duo of fighters/skimmers for the Kra'uul, which take the form of GW Forge World Tau Piranha, which have been assembled in a non-40K cannon way as I preferred the look. These are still partially glued until I complete the crew cockpits when they'll be finally assembled. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Again, a fairly simple paint scheme planned for these guys with the Kra'uul generally going for an off white with red/gray/ochre detail. Might try a touch of air brushing for these models as I've never tried airbrush for models even though I've had the airbrush for a good few years and only ever used it for art work. Should be fine for vehicles or so I believe. I'll probably go for my own home made decals for them too.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I've a few other bits are on the table in various states of assembly including a fair amount of Anvil Industries gun tractors and Grenadiers which I like lots and I succumbed to another Kickstarter, this time Mordian Tanks and their current buggy goodness. Lots to keep me going on this project.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As promised in my last post, I have here some of my WIP that I've been working on during the lockdown. This time around it's the first of the troops I intend to use for games of Oathmark when we are allowed to get to the clubs again.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrYojaBOHE06MvMQWfwI2JAEVArTXmy2iFy4vnq6WQjtaZF425x4vLnsjmtwXs4tQ0MCia3XEhYZfuhRf4s9V0GlkPLwMD2XO3fKFKM_mOGS1QLHq7_ZkJ_nZS86-g3_sS2QKAZZONlPo/s1600/WIP+July+20+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="899" data-original-width="1200" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrYojaBOHE06MvMQWfwI2JAEVArTXmy2iFy4vnq6WQjtaZF425x4vLnsjmtwXs4tQ0MCia3XEhYZfuhRf4s9V0GlkPLwMD2XO3fKFKM_mOGS1QLHq7_ZkJ_nZS86-g3_sS2QKAZZONlPo/s320/WIP+July+20+%25283%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Infantry unit is based on the Fireforge Forgotten World Infantry that I picked up in the <a href="https://albatwowarblog.blogspot.com/2019/12/forgotten-realms-fire-forge-kickstarter.html"><span style="color: red;">kickstarter</span></a> tale end of last year, or the first two of the three boxes I picked up anyway. Took a bit of construction and a reasonable amount of mould line removal plus the heads that I used from the box sets don't fit very well (sitting very high on the torso) and required cutting down to sit correctly to my eye anyway.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I used a selection of GW heads from Empire and Bretonnian sets and altered a few of the Fireforge heads adding greenstuff caps to match the look I was going for. I ended up using about half a dozen or so of the historical heads from a Fireforge Scandinavian box set to add some more variety but these had to be drilled and pinned with gaps at the neck filled as the location method between the kits is completely different (historical the socket is on the head, fantasy the socket is on the torso).</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'll add the other box set to the unit some time in the future for use of the unit in other rule sets but they're not required for Oathmark. In fact only 20 of the figs are needed for Oathmark and I'll probably sabot the figs so they fit the base frontages for use in the rules.</span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaFj8K1hnlQlInzx6mnHOfEmntCVV1zllkYDyNQ715dGz6kkXp1go2p7H7-abADegaU0f-Qqfvl6NfZVnXHpMDSlNqCVkXTYQnPg-9CRNdkEV4WerWnkw0lN0uBB9ur8rHrlrDIFc0NgQ/s1600/WIP+July+20+%25284%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="791" data-original-width="1200" height="210" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaFj8K1hnlQlInzx6mnHOfEmntCVV1zllkYDyNQ715dGz6kkXp1go2p7H7-abADegaU0f-Qqfvl6NfZVnXHpMDSlNqCVkXTYQnPg-9CRNdkEV4WerWnkw0lN0uBB9ur8rHrlrDIFc0NgQ/s320/WIP+July+20+%25284%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The Cavalry follow the same basic premise of the Infantry being from the Fireforge Forgotten World Kickstarter bundle I picked up but this time using only GW heads principally Bretonnian for a slightly diffent look. Again, there's another box to be constructed to make up a larger unit but not required for initial small Oathmark games planned. The Infantry and Cavalry units are destined, in their full sized capacity, to also be used in my ongoing Alba Campaign as Northern states militia types.</span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_dcLJVW0UTXUY12Oqg5bP44yDvUjHpjRzqA86pPeIaOlZ6fISFsRfiw7wCtA9wUhLMLAp5qgeq3lGgvhJR47ArFILjic421eTZz51Mi1lR4-Zn6VsMj2sus4r2IKJYgu6_3dMx4FnSf4/s1600/WIP+July+20+%25285%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="907" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_dcLJVW0UTXUY12Oqg5bP44yDvUjHpjRzqA86pPeIaOlZ6fISFsRfiw7wCtA9wUhLMLAp5qgeq3lGgvhJR47ArFILjic421eTZz51Mi1lR4-Zn6VsMj2sus4r2IKJYgu6_3dMx4FnSf4/s320/WIP+July+20+%25285%2529.JPG" width="241" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Finally in this WIP trio is the first of the giants planned. Probably easily recognisable as one of the GW Giants of Albion from the defunct Dogs of War range which I have multitudes of in the 'to do' list.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Picked up a couple of the Giants boxes when they were current but never really had a use for them until now so they've finally managed to see the light of day.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Bit of a pig to assemble with much drilling and pinning and still to finish off filling in the gaps with greenstuff to finish off the assembly and will move onto painting up this bad boy once I've finished a couple of other figures that are nearing completion.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'll post again and report on progress for this project including other troops in construction for this army.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Next up, a wee bit of WIP on my Future Wars project progress from during lockdown.</span></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Back at the beginning of April (doesn't time fly when you're having fun) I posted up a small project that was planned to keep me busy during lockdown, <a href="http://albatwowarblog.blogspot.com/2020/04/isolation-exercise.html"><span style="color: red;">'Isolation Excercise'</span></a> in painting up the terrain and figures for playing a Thud & Blunder based skirmish game.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">As fate would have it, lockdown didn't seem to have as much free time available as I thought it may and with working from home and my better half thinking up lots of 'odd jobs' that suddenly required doing, the last three months have positively flown by. This being a good thing really.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Don't get me wrong, I have managed to get through much hobby goodness over the period, probably more than I would have normally, just not as much as I thought (or hoped) I may. Lots's of WIP to post about, some of which I'll do over the next couple of days, over several projects and not least 'Bad Day at Ganish Aer' which this update is around with the first of the three warbands finally getting completed.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">A brief background for the Celesterale are that they are a Radical splinter group of the Magus Preceptory, which are the Magister faction of the ruling elite from the declining Celebrian Empire. The representative's of the Celesterale is the warband led by Graven, who is an 'agent at large' attempting to further the machinations of the Preceptory by any means he deems necessary.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">A lot of you may recognise the figure here being the long OOP pre-slotta base Citadel Chaos Wizard which I've had rolling around for 35 years or more unpainted and un-loved, so he got picked as part of the project to do some. I found the figure quite hard to paint and couldn't settle on a paint scheme that I was happy with but ended up going for a dark blue and red scheme which didn't end up as dark as intended. Should of gone for a standard bad guy black and red with gold bits scheme but hey, turned out alright I suppose.</span></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Ademar Vinx and his 'pet' Wraith</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Ademar is the bad wizard type 'Vonatar' from the old Lone Wolf mid 80's Ciadel range and is a figure I'd already painted for a Mordheim campaign we had a couple of years ago, but received a touch up and a re-painted base. Ademars Wraith is a fairly newly acquired figure from one of the Northstar Frostgrave Nickstarter's a couple of years ago. This is a pretty easy figure to paint having a single colour or so to paint and highlight. One of the first to be put to bed.</span></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The two Corrindessian Mercenaries, Sooni Khawn and Vengtar U'Bharunn, hailing from much sunnier and distant climes, the figures are again from Northstar's Frostgrave range Cultist knights which I picked up as soon as they were released as they really fitted my idea of what Corrindessian's would look like as soon as I saw them. They took a considerable amount of time to paint, mainly due to the amount of detail on them but quite happy with how they tuned out.</span></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Skeleton Bodyguards</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The cannon fodder of the warband, the ubiquitous skeletons, are again figures which I had previously painted but again received a facelift and brightened up bases. They are early-ish citadel armoured skeletons which I picked up a pack of somewhere in a bring and buy and are some of my favourite skeleton figures. I would like to track down some more of these as they are full of character.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So, a small update this time and the next warband now moving into the WIP pile are Elspeth and Melinda, commonly known in adventuring circles of Northern Tir-mor as 'the Glitter Twins' and their band of colourful 'Toughs'.</span></div>
